What we're picking:
Weekend of 9/26:
Pumpkins
Our many varieties of pumpkins have been growing well all summer, and most are ready to be picked directly from the patch! You will find many varieties mixed in together in our massive 8-acre pumpkin patch!
Apples
-
Crimsoncrisp: A deep red beauty with a perfectly balanced sweet-tart flavor. CrimsonCrisp apples are renowned for their firm, crunchy texture and refreshing juiciness, making them an excellent choice for fresh eating. They also hold their shape well in baking and add a crisp snap to salads. CrimsonCrisp was first developed in the 1970s through a partnership between Purdue, Rutgers, and the University of Illinois, with the original seedling planted at Rutgers in New Jersey.
-
Crispin: A large, juicy apple with a crisp bite and sweet-tart flavor. Crispins are excellent for eating fresh, baking, and making cider. Their firm texture holds up beautifully in pies and crisps, and their refreshing flavor makes them a farm favorite. Crispins were first developed in Japan in the 1930s as a cross between Golden Delicious and Indo apples, and they were originally called “Mutsu” after the Japanese province where they were created.
-
Honeycrisp: A farm favorite! Known for their juicy crunch and perfect balance of sweet and tart, Honeycrisp apples are refreshing, crisp, and bursting with flavor. Delicious for snacking fresh, tossing into salads, pairing with cheese, and even holding their shape beautifully in pies and baking.
-
Snapdragon: Crisp, juicy, and bursting with flavor, SnapDragon apples are known for their signature “monster crunch” and sweet taste with just a hint of spice. They’re perfect for fresh eating, adding a refreshing bite to salads, pairing with cheese, as well as many baking applications. SnapDragon was developed at Cornell University in New York as the successor to the popular Honeycrisp, carrying on its famous crunch while being even sweeter and easier to grow.
-
Shizuka: A sweet, low-acid apple with a crisp, juicy texture and mellow flavor. Similar to Mutsu but slightly sweeter, Shizukas are excellent for fresh eating and salads, as they resist browning after slicing. Shizuka was developed in Japan in the 1960s as a cross between Golden Delicious and Indo apples, making it a sibling to the famous Crispin.
